How to prevent outside rust on the Oklahoma Joe

I agree with ButtBurner, I spot paint with the Rustoleum grill paint and it seems to do the trick. I clean out my smoker, by hand, but the only time I pressure was it is when I get ready to move (I'm in the military)...and the movers demand it. Then I always have to reseason it. I would...

First Run with new OKJ Longhorn

The Ribs fell off the bone and were awesome...I used a little squeeze Parkay along with some apple juice when I wrapped them. I did notice a good bit of leakage around the firebox, so I sealed the gaps from the outside with Permetex Red Sealant and then top sprayed it with some 1000* Rustoleum...

Looking for suggestions to bring life back to this old grill

I agree with boykjo, by separating the tanks and retrailering then you could add counterweights to the doors and make it a heckuvalot safer. I also noticed that the wheels are under the trailer and seem kinda small to me...if you had a blowout the Cooker is going to smack the roadway or roll...

First Run with new OKJ Longhorn

After a test burn last week, which I was able to get a good range of temperatures 225-300 degrees...I fired up the my new OKJ Longhorn today... Imitation being the highest form of flattery, I modified it with the HD Gate Latches and used a elbow to get the smoke down to the grate level.  Here...

    Beef Pricing

Vacuum packed untrimmed brisket was $2.56/pound in Panama City, Fl before I moved to Newport News, VA....here it is $2.38/lb. $5/lb sounds like trimmed brisket not untrimmed.... If Wal-Mart does not have it on the shelf then ask for it...they can order it... Richjt92

Got my new OLD Oklahoma Joe Smoker

arkiebiker, From the pics it does not look too dirty. I agree with the guys above on cleaning the grates and doing the pressure washing the firebox. I do not like using oven cleaner in the smoker box. As for seasoning, you can spray Pam, Wipe it Down with Bacon Grease or spray the inside with...

    Older Oklahoma Joe Smoker

This looks like the 16" model or smaller. The one which is selling at Lowe's is equivalent to the 20" model in size sold at Horizons BBQ. It is going to be a pain to move around, if you need to move it since it does not have wheels. If it is an old OKJ then it will be heavy. The smokestack...

    Getting rust off cast iron

If it is surface rust I would use a green scrubby to see if I could knock it off before I wnet with the steel wool. It might save some of the seasoning on it...if there is any. The Steel wool will take it to bare metal....if that is your goal to start from scratch then go for it... Richjt92

I'd much rather be smoking! But wedding gifts got in the way!

HD gift cards as a wedding presents!! Awesome. Congrats dirtsailor2003! A few years ago I was in a buddies wedding and we went to Bass Pro Shops and asked if they did wedding registries...they looked puzzled and said no... While my buddy and I walked out we determined this was a good thing...
