Take out all the insulation and replace it with Roxul insulation. The biggest mistake I made was using it as an oven and cranked up the heat to 425. Those high temps started the smolder the insulation and when it got to the oak frame it really went up in flame.
Red,
It's pretty obvious that I cannot answer that . LOL
On my new 1947 Servel that I will be building the top and sides are easily removed and I have already done so.
There are metal straps that wrap around the fridge box that holds the insulation panels in place.
Red,
Do yourself a huge favor and get rid of all that insulation. I made 2 mistakes with this smoker. The first was not removing the original insulation and 2nd was trying to hurry up some scalloped potatoes and maxed out the burner and raised the temp to 425*.
The potatoes were done...
I've been waiting a long time to make this post. I thought my first 20# tank of propane was never going to end.
After seeing post that Pops gets 17 hours out of a tank from his uninsulated wooden smoker and seeing other posts ranging from 40-55 hours per tank I was figuring on getting around...
I was planning on rolling a big ole fatty tomorrow and now I see that I'm going to have to roll 2 because I have to try this Reuben one and my bride will not do sauerkraut.
Thanks for sharing.
