Embarking on a new octagon offset build.

https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/octagon-offset-build-24-x-48.280203/ That's the link to the one that is very similar to my design. I'm also thinking about how much easier its gonna be to cut out .188" steel vs .312" steel.

Embarking on a new octagon offset build.

I have been designing and laying out a smoker very similar to another member a couple threads down, which looks amazing, and have run into a problem. I thought I had enough 1/4" steel plate to do it all. I'm short a decent amount. I found some new steel that will work, at a good price, but he...

    Danger of using galvanized hardware?

so the consensus is do not risk it, what I figured but I wanted to be sure. So I guess most people use stainless steel bolts then?

    Danger of using galvanized hardware?

I am about to commence building of my very first barrel smoker.  I was curious if there was any danger associated with using galvanized bolts and nuts for the firebox assembly? Typically I avoid using zinc coated material when there is high heat present. Doing some research online the...

    Embarking on a Smoker Build

I picked up the US Stove kit, top and bottom today from the local hardware store. Figure I could do it cheaper, but this will save me alot of hassle.  I had a curious thought while looking at the kit. Is there any danger from using galvanized hardware inside of this thing? I was going to...

    Embarking on a Smoker Build

I hadnt thought of the space between the barrels as working as a baffle.  I just threw together a quick drawing of what I was proposing, but this does have the reverse flow plate on it.

    Embarking on a Smoker Build

I was under the impression that Feldon's was for offset builds. Looking at it again I can see nowhere it says that so I appear to be wrong. the calculation I was questioning was the need for a 11.5" firebox to cooking chamber pipe.  To match that kind of square inches I would need two 8" pipes.

    Embarking on a Smoker Build

is there a calculator, or a common answer, for how large the inlet from the firebox to the CC need be? It stands to reason that the diameter be much smaller than with an offset setup since it will be directly below the CC.  Is one larger pipe towards the end work better than two smaller ones...
