Did the deflector thing early on and it helped quite a bit. That fan approach is what I had in mind and with the thermostat regulator the gas a bit I am hoping it will be better. Starting to use the smoke box more and more and find it has helped as well. Also may look at the upper FB vents...
Hello, Been awhile so I thought I would give you some update. Last mods helped a bunch and have been successful smoking most everything. Getting bottom of box to same temp as top is a chore and takes forever to heat with this much mass. So I did add a pipe burner a few months back which has...
Dave,
Thanks for the info. Will start on rev 2 tomorrow, I had thought about welding tips but it seemed like a lot of work for that many holes. I am thinking I may just put a shutoff for one of the legs so I can do a quick warm up and the use the other leg for lower temp control. ...
Thanks much. I got some very wrong info.re holes. I am using a High Flow orifice from a auto changeover regulator for LP bottles. It will do several hundred K BTU. The regulator is a 0-10 adjustable however I did try a BBQ low flow (.5) reg but flame out was an issue. 3/32 is doable for...
Re Flame Out Protection. Been wanting to add but have not found anything unless I use a Thermo-couple with a pilot light or re igniter valve. They are spendy. If you could recommend something it would be appreciative.
Thanks
Burner is 2 3/4 pipes from a T . Each is 12" with 9" of 1/8 holes. T connects to venturi then gas thru needle valve and adj regulator. Pics of Exhaust and Burn Box with Vents attached. I have top 3 open.
Hello - Sure hope I can get some ideas as I have a homemade VERY WELL INSULATED Smoker with a 28W x 25D x 55H Smoke chamber and a Firebox below that is 28 x 25 x 20H. I made a twin pipe burner with 9" of closed spaced 1/8 holes, adjustable reg and needle valve. It works well to maintain 250...

I am replacing the simple BBQ side burner . I have been using as it just not big enough doe smoker that is 3W x 5H x 2' Deep. 4 " walls and Burner Chamber Below. Reverse Flow up sides and back down to exit. While smoker works OK it takes hours to get it up to temp if I am doing ribs. -
I...
I use a mix, A propane burner from an old BBQ side burner with a Cast iron pan that I add Lump Charcoal to. When it gets going I add wood for smoke and back off gas. Just add charcoal as need plus keep wood in pan for good smoke. I use vent adjustments to try and control heat.
Need some suggestions with Smoker re Temp Control for long Cook times. I use propane to an old BBQ Burner with Cast Pan. Start it with Propane and add Lump Charcoal and then add wood. See Pics re size and vent info but keeping temp even is nearly impossible with 40 degree difference at top...
