    For Loins I normally do a quickie method. Apply rub (low sugar) sear the snot out of it than toss in the smoker for a few hours.

    I am kinda surprised you are having problems getting up to temp too. I have an el cheapo propane smoker that I have used year round (in pretty cold MI temps) and never had and issue.
