@ Greg I built mine so that the grates were easy to access as well as the handles on the doors when they're opened but yes most all of this style of smoker I've seen the bottom of the firebox is close to the ground
Hi Greg; no I didn't weld the R.F. plate to the top of the firebox it is about an inch above it and the R.F. plate is about 9" off the bottom of the tank and has about 2.5" of drop from the f.b. to the end of the r.f. plate I didn't want that much drop but the drain pipe slipped and didn't...
My tank is 30" in diameter by 96"long by 1/4" thick . by the measurements you gave it sounds like a 250 gal. tank , and no different tank manufactures them differently one makers 250 maybe anothers 275 . Hope this helps ya out
