Looking for a steel drum in Long Island, New York.

I located an online merchant but UPS shipping costs are prohibitive.  I'm located near Huntington but would be willing to travel to Nassau county or eastern Long Island if necessary.  I'm also curious if lined drums can be burned out or whether unlined food-grade is the preferable way to go...

    Wireless bridge (adapter) question

Looking for a wireless bridge between my white Stoker and a Belkin router that will allow me to use the Stoker software on my PC.  Any suggestions? Best, Steve Update:  Found many that will work but already have an Apple Airport that works with my router to stream music to the stereo...

Help with DigiQ II temperature controller

When I power the controller on I get a series of beeps and the "88" flashes on and off quickly and won't turn off.   I thought that "888" is supposed to flash, and that you can then control pit and food temperature levels by using the buttons as per the manual.  No amount of button combinations...

    Building a drum smoker

We can compare notes then.  I'm slowly compiling my hardware ("Honey - what are these Home Depot charges for?"  "Things we need for the house, Dear.").  Got the pipes, nipples, ball valves, etc.  I'm going to start my build the week after Christmas.  Good luck with your build. Best, Steve

    Bar grating

Thanks guys - I appreciate the responses.  The owner says that the bbq is designed for "direct heat" bbq as they do it in North Carolina.  However, "direct heat" can mean different things depending on how far the meat is from the food source, and you can always use a baffle and a water pan to...

    Bar grating

I'm looking at plans for a smoker and the plan calls for "bar grating" that's framed by angle steel.  Anyone know where I could find this (or something heavier) for both the cooking grill and the coal grill?  I've looked at the kind of industrial grating used as walk ways in factories, etc., but...

I want to start brewing but i got a few questions??

I just got into brewing myself and my first home brew, an Irish red ale from Northern Brewers, has been fermenting in the bucket for the past 3 weeks.  The most important issue is sanitizing your equipment at every stage past the initial boiling stage.  The kits from Northern Brewer are very...

Links to Videos or How-to's for Building a UDS

I'm thinking of making one with 3/4" steel pipe for the intakes on the bottom.  How do you attach the pipe that is through the hole?  Large nuts and washers? Best, Steve

Links to Videos or How-to's for Building a UDS

There's a great thread on this forum on how to make a "20/20 Charcoal Basket" for a UDS build.

I will take a baseball bat to my UDS and just buy a lang

As per my last post, I've been thinking about building a UDS along these lines of your picture, above.  I plan to drill three holes on the bottom:  Two would be open at the beginning of the cook to bring the temperature up, and one hole on the bottom with a pipe extended up the side with a 3/4"...

Newbie wonders: To baffle or not to baffle - and one other question.

It's nice to come across an incredibly simple, efficient design (the Mexican chimanaya comes to mind) that does exactly what it is designed for.  I was going to upgrade an old, rusty off-set smoker (Char-broil Silver Smoker), but then I thought, why not build a UDS for a lot less time and money...

Newbie wonders: To baffle or not to baffle - and one other question.

Thinking about my first UDS build and wondering if I should include two other levels besides the top cooking level?  I will probably put the top cooking level about 7" from the top and would like to put a second cooking level below that one. I've seen builds that include a third, lower level...
