I know a number of Yoder pellet smoker owners that have setup an inverter with a couple of deep cycle batteries for use at competitions when they either have no power or the power is insufficient. I just did a search and Traeger has a branded inverter on Amazon for about $70.
I have a Yoder 640 and do not use a water pan. For pork butts/picnics, I inject with apple juice over night and then put on my Yoder at 250*. I usually do two 9-10 pound butts and will foil once they hit 160* or so. I go by feel and not so much by temps, if you can put a probe in and it feels...
For all of the aggravation you should look at the Yoder YS640 or YS480.. Made in the USA in Kansas and backed by an awesome warranty and support staff. Also look at a Fireboard for monitoring your pit and food temps. Wi-fi sounds neat but buying quality over useless gadgets is not worth it. I...
Personally I would not put my family or friends at risk by using them, then I guess for some saving a buck is more important then their family.... just my opinion.
I would suggest after the initial burnoff to let it cool and then either spray the entire cooking area with something like Pam or wipe it with oil. I used peanut oil the first time on my Yoder and ran it for an hour and a half. It takes a bit longer having to wipe instead of spray but peanut oil...
Stop chasing temps. Go to this link and try the temperature test, takes about two hours. You may be surprised to see that the temps between the controller and probes will average out to the temperature you want. Yes I know it's for a Yoder but others have used this test and gotten good results...
I apologize for putting in my 2 cents but the inconsistent smoke is not how all pellet smokers work. I get a slight white smoke when I start my Yoder until the fire gets going, but once I close the lid I get an almost invisible blue smoke the entire time. Doesn't matter if I am running it for 5...
I have had my Yoder YS640 for over three years and find the smoke flavor fine. If I need to change it up I use a tube smoker to add flavor. I do brisket usually taking 15-20 hours and running with hickory in my AMPTS gives it more than enough smoke flavor. Granted you're going to pay more but I...
I run my Yoder at 250* to 275* for everything I smoke and never have seen that problem. I do not foil my deflector plate, never foil ribs and may foil a whole brisket or boston butts is the stall is taking long or just want to get done. Someone did a test on all of the common pellets on the...
9.5lb Boston Butt on at 6am this morning, injected with apple juice yesterday and Tasty Licks Original rub last night.
Rubbed the ribs in the same rub last night, and added Kosmos Killer Bee Honey rub before putting them on at 10:30am. Butt was at 161*, added OJ, foiled and back on.
Running...
I have only used BBQ Delight Apple in my YS640 for over three years now, too much of a PITA to change out pellets each time. If I want to change the flavor, I have the smaller bags on BBQ D and use the tube smoker. I have both the 6" and 12" and usually use the 12" on brisket and pork butts...
