I did a pork loin recently with nothing but mesquite and had a few complaints about being a little too smoky( yeah i know i dont believe such a thing haha) so with oak as my heat and apple wood for my flavor you think im on the right track

Im smoking a brisket and curious if anyone knows would it be better to use oak for my heat over charcoal? I will be using apple wood chips for the smoking...Thanks ahead of time im new at smoking but so far have done a pork loin that turned out outstanding
