24x42 Pits by JJ offset smokers

Bought summer of 19. It’s 1/4 inch steel on smoke chamber and 1/2 inch on the firebox. It’s a freaking tank. I’ve used it 12-15 times and it’s just too much work for me. It holds good temps, but like I said I want more of a set it and forget it. It’s very well made and doesn’t have any leaky...

    Fire box care?

Now you guys got me questioning getting one this big. Is this thing gonna be way overkill for the occasional backyard smoke? I occasionally will smoke enough meat for 20-25 people when my kids have a birthday party. Other than that it’ll be 1-2 butts, a few racks of ribs or a brisket. I...

    Fire box care?

Yeah it’s definitely bigger than I need. I was gonna get a 20x42 but everything I read said get the 24 if you can. Definitely overkill for a pork butt for my family.

    Fire box care?

Upgrading from 1/4. I looked at several different offsets, most were about that much to upgrade from 1/4 to 1/2.

    Fire box care?

Is that what the bricks are for is just insulation? Just use any kind of brick?

    Fire box care?

2 more questions, can someone explain what the fire bricks are? I still have a day or 2 to make any changes, is the $400 worth the upgrade to a 1/2 inch fire box? I live in Nebraska and plan on smoking through the winter.

    Fire box care?

Getting my first offset here in a few weeks. I upgraded to the 1/2 inch fire box. I was reading a thread someone posted about having a rusted out fire box, and it got me wondering about preventative maintenance on it so I don’t have that issue. Is it basically as simple as emptying the ash after...

    Hello from Nebraska

I’ve been a member here for a long time, just haven’t posted much though. I’ve been smoking on an 18.5 in WSM for a 5-6 years and have kicked the tires on a stick burner the last couple years. Finally pulled the trigger on a Pits by JJ 24x42 offset! Should be here in the next 3-4 weeks! Looking...

Question for you Nola Saints, what do you use for a diffuser (I think that's what its called). Do you use the BGE one or do you use something else?

    Bubba Keg/Big Steel Keg question

I posted in a previous thread that I was looking for a new charcoal smoker, and was looking at either the WSM or the Big Steel Keg. I got a lot of replies on the WSM and others saying go with a UDS. I didn't see any comments good or bad about the BSK though. Is that because nobody on here uses...

    Question about the WSM.

I've heard that it uses a lot of charcoal. I read somebody say that on a 12 hr smoke it went through 22 lbs of lump charcoal. Is that about right for the WSM and all charcoal smokers. I'm just starting to looking at charcoal smokers, had a MES for a couple of years. I have also been looking at...

Whats the temp range of the WSM?

Just curious how low/high the WSM will go?

    Need help picking new smoker!

I've been doing a lot of research online, and stumbled across this forum. So let me ask you, WSM or the Big Steel Keg. I've seen a lot of reviews on the WSM and everyone seems to love it. I know the BSK is a new and improved version of the Bubba Keg, so there aren't many reviews of it. Most of...
