    Could one of those big weed dragon torches hooked to a 20 gal. propane tank be used to remove oil/mil scale from inside of cook chamber on new smoker, 1/4 in. steel w/o warping anything.. I would think heat would be easier to control then a raging fire..

    Does the plate in a reverse flow smoker need to be welded in(airtight) or can it just be sit in on some angle? Building a smoker and getting ready to put plate in but want to do it right 1st time.

    Dave, thanks for the help.. jckdanls, I knew tank was 470 gal. but was told by guy I got it from it was considered a 500 gal., wouldn't think 30 gal. would make much difference..

    in the notes at the end of his calculator page it says firebox should be as wide as the RF flow plate for ease of fitment, no way I can make a 47.5 in. wide firebox as Ive already made the one according to Feldons which is 32x36..

    Im building a 500 gal. reverse flow smoker, my tank is 48 in. diameter and 60 in. long, Feldons says I need a 36,172 in. cu. in. firebox.. this comes out to roughly a 32x36 in. box, well Ive got the box welded up and this this is giant, its made from 1/4 in. plate and probably weighs 300# or...

    never mind just went ahead and made the doors, all hinges welded on plus metal strap around door edges to seal.

    Weber Grill lid for UDS question

    Well guys figured it out after searching forum a bit, I took a pair of vicegrips and flattned the lip out on the lid, set back on top of drum and took a hammer and reformed the lip to fit the drum, not totally even all the way around but seems to have a tight seal so should be good to go..
