Based on the limited range I see with my Bluetooth speakers out by my pool, I would rather stick with their old remote. It's range isn't great but better that BT.
Even your kitchen oven will fluctuate from the set point. The heating element only comes on when the temp drops well below set point and when it shuts off the temp rise will go well above. So you will always have some temp variance.
Never put any water in the pan of the unit. Keep the vent wide open and the chip tray pulled out an inch or two. This will provide good air flow to keep the pellets in the AMNPS burning and prevent condensation inside the unit.
No chips needed in the tray. Just pellets in the AMNPS. Make...
There are tons of resturants who smoke food and comply with all health regulations. Go ask one of them how often they clean their pit smokers. They should get a laugh out of that.
I generaly clean the racks, the sensors, wipe up any grease and knock off any loose deposits. I also clean the...
I've been buying my brisket at Sam's Club. If you buy a full packer I think it's $2.99 per pound. For $50 I bought a 17+ lb brisket. I ended up trimming a couple pounds of fat before smoking, but it's still a good price to feed a crowd.
I have the MES 40, Gen1, and I love it. With the AMNPS and a Maverick wireless thermo it's a great setup. That said, I would not recomend it for camping trips and the like. It doesn't have the worlds best reputation for being rugged and troublefree. A lot of problems are reported with wire...
The 40 doesn't use more electricity or take up more room over the 30. You will never regret having the extra space inside. That is a very basic MES40. No window, painted black vs Stainless steel, and it doesn't come with the wireless remote control. But it will function exactly the same as the...
You can easily find the Gen1 units. In fact, as we recently found out, Masterbuilt is still building and selling Generation one units.
You can identify a MES 40 Gen 1 as follows:
The control panel is on the top at the rear.at the rear. vs front
The door is hinged on the right side.
It is...
Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know they were still making Gen.1 units. That's great news. So the only thing the last two digits show then is the year it was manufactured.
AMNPS is a very simple and ingenious pellet burning, smoke generator tray. It was designed to fit perfectly into the MES Gen1. 5x8 inches and it sets on the two bars to the left of the heating unit in the bottom of the smoker. The location allows it to draw heated air and fill your smoker with...
The 40 doesn't take much more space or use much more electricity. It does cost a little more up front, but I'm very happy that I started out with a MES 40. You can fit a full 17 pound packer brisket on a shelf. So you could theoretically smoke up to four full packers or four pork shoulders at a...
Also if you are looking at MES40's:
Door hinge is on right, vent on top right = Gen.1
Door hinge on left, vent on side = Gen.2
The last two digits of the model number is the model year. 011 is 2011 (Gen.1) 2012 or later = Gen.2.
Hunt around for one of the Generation 1 units. You will know them because the control is on the top at the rear, the hinge on the door on the right and there is a vent on the top at the right rear. Also the last two digits of the model numbers is the model year. So that one is a 2012 unit (Gen...
Let us hope that they do something to save their reputation. They need to do something to make up for the disastrous generation 2. You know you have a problem when people are seeking out the older version of your product over you "new and improved" one.
