Dont know whst model MES that you have, my mrs i had to replace the temp control with a pid controller as it eould not keep constant temps, more of a average. The cold smoker option teally helps becadue you dont want a lot of smoke. It took me s uear to figute out the temp problem. Long story...
The master built cold smoker attachment would work great for you as the dize you indic as ted would burn good in the cold smoker, i have one and love it.
I have the gen2 30 inch,going on 4 years and i smoke a lot, probably weekly, as everyone loves my brisket, replaced 1 heating element and re wired for a PID controller as the masterbuilt controllers are set for the chip loader to work, i have the masterbuilt cold smoker attachment and love it
This setup only works with the cold smoker attachment it will NOT work with the chip loader, my masterbuilt cold smoker has its own power switch snd seperate cord
You can build your own PID controller for less than 30 bucks...

Had that happen to mine also,was the heater element had a short to ground,didnt trip the gfi circuit it was on though,replaced element and all is good again
Great post Bear,somehow i missed it along the way,when my gen2 gives up the goast i wiil know what model i will need.
One item that i found out by accident,is that the mes gen2 temperature controler does not like low voltage,iwas on a a/c extension cord with a surge protector on a 15 amp...
