I never ended up getting an air fryer and still manage to cook at home nearly 100% of the time.
I don't know the various brands, but you can do as i suggested last year - take a look at thrift stores and see what they have. New these air fryers start around $40/$50 and go up from there...
Hi @geostriata,
Actually that's a problem I solved back in January. The controller is very cheaply made and I think mine shorted out from the steam from the smoke and some condensation.
I ordered a new one replaced it, and tested it. All was fine.
However, if you lay your smoker down...
Well good news:
I opened up the door on the bottom and it was filled with liquid and grease. I didn't take the board out, but I wiped it down and scraped out all the grease I saw.
bad news:
Unit still hasn't turned on. Now that I have the door opened and exposed to the dry air, I hope in the...
@tallbm - Excellent input, thank you very much. Thank you for your time in troubleshooting my smoker.
I just came across this video:

I...
Hey all,

In January, the controller unit was freaking out after about a 9 hour cook - it would turn on but quickly cycle through the time or temp.
I think some condensation got to the unit and shorted it...
Another option instead of buying new is to check out good will in your areas, or look on craigslist.
In practically every good will I've been in this year, I've seen toaster ovens, crockpots, instapots, coffee makers, stand mixers, bread machines, etc.
Makes me wonder why people are giving...
> Just curious. Is there any advantage to SV'ing burgers?
Just like any SV food - you can cook multiple patties at once and they'll all be equally cooked to your chosen temp.
Thanks for the reply and idea, @DougE.
I do have a hibachi grill that I have yet to use after I've SV burgers.
My thought is that, for what I've noticed, it takes awhile for the charcoal to heat up and I'd only need it for ~5 minutes.
How do you sear it - in a skillet or grill?
I'd like to get a portable propane grill so that I can heat it up quickly and sear the burger after I SV it.
