im new to this havent built on,but going to build a 500 hundred gallon this spring,my question is why not have smoke stack on the other end of smoker away from firebox.
 
I not 100% sure taterbug, however if my understanding of my research is correct. its a reverse flow cooker, the heat n smoke is forced thru a channel on the bottom of the cooker, after the smoke reaches the far side of the smoker it goes up and then comes in contact with the area where food is smoked, then travels back across the cooker and out the smokestack
