My Yoder is hotter on the lower grate over the FB but I rarely grill on it mostly slow low BBQ and mostly only on the upper rack where temps are pretty even side to side but I also have a sliding baffle under the heat diffuser where I can slide it all the way up to the firebox to concentrate heat there for direct searing over the flame or slide it towards the opposite site to pull more heat towards the exhaust. It lets me tune the evenness of the heat in cook chamber a bit.
