looking to purchase s decent offset stick burner in NYC for around $1,000 but the big box stores have crap here. Can anyone suggest where I can get one without have to spend $100’s in shipping. Saw the Old Country Pecos model at Academy Sports for $400 with shipping around $200 so it keeps me in a comfortable price point. Any other suggestions.

Thanks

Welcome from Stokes County, NC. I was born in Queens, where in NYC are you? Are you outside the city and just shopping there?

Ahh...we moved upstate to a suburb of Buffalo when I was 9 or so. And for 22 years, until last year, we had a farm in CNY and have moved to our NC place in retirement. I've gotten so used to rural living that I get antsy after a couple of days in any city. NYC would be a great place to spend more time if it weren't for all those people!

Good luck with the smoker hunt and again, welcome to the forum. You'll find a very welcoming community here. And the search function is well worth exploring when you have questions.

Best regards,

Thanks appreciate it.

I have my sights set on NC as well but closer to the Charlotte area.

I am from Brooklyn, NY and still live there.

I was born in Bay Ridge, Gatling Place. Dad moved us out in the sixties. I've been back twice - Sorry to say I don't miss it. Way to many people.

We're about a half hour north of Winston-Salem and about 2 hours from downtown Charlotte. Even if you're not yet ready to move by then you would be ore than welcome to join us at the 2019 NC Gathering. Here's a link to the 2018 event.....

welcome from NC! I'm a VA native who lives in NC but has never been to NYC so im going to ask a stupid question: Do you guys have any Bass Pro Shops? If you do, there is a Horizon you can get (1/4" steel) that is a good smoker for less than a grand. their website says free ship to store

https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/Horizon-Smoke-16-Classic-Backyard-Smoker

there are some bigger and nicer horizons if you are willing to go above that $1000 threshold.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the recommendation I will check it out online. Thanks for all the responses, this really is a friendly forum. On a side note I bought an 11 lb packet brisket and a 9 lb pork butt that I will be smoking in my Weber Smokey Mountain tomorrow morning. Guessing I should put the pork on the lowest rack and the brisket on the top? Never cooked a brisket before so this should be interesting. Going to try and run it at 275 degrees.

If you can't fit them both on the top rack then your correct. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Went pretty well today. The shoulder was magnificent and only took about 9 hrs, the brisket was bulked after 7 hrs and would have been better if I didn’t have to keep it wrapped in a cooler for 4 hrs but I can’t complain and everyone was very happy. The collard greens were excellent.
