I hope it works great! Right now I have a one pc drip pan on the pellet side. I will see how that works first. If the doesn't work well I may remove it and put tuning plates in place of it. I can put foil over the plate if I want to run the pellet grill only. That is my thought today.
All you can do is test it out and try it… I put a ball valve drain in the bottom of my cabinet but I have yet to use it… most of my dripping land in a pan below the meat or on the 1/8” plate I have over top the diffusers

1st burn in today. Getting all of the oils burned out. After 4-5 hours of that I will oil the grates and get them seasoned for about an hour or so. Then put on some chicken leg quarters.

First cook in the books. Leg quarters, cooked with maple firewood that I have from winter. Temperature varied from each end of cooking chamber depending upon time the wood I added. Too big a split and I got a more temp variation, hot on the exhaust side.
Chicken was good but the skin was rubbery. Light smoke flavor, which was much better than pellet. Not bad for the first cook!
