I have moved to South Carolina and every one has there special recipies and how 2's I would like to surprise the kids and there friends when they come to Lake and show them I also can Smoke meat and put some tasty BBQ on the table. I've spoke to some people and they said to start with a Grill with a Firebox attached. Can ya'll help me out?
First of all welcome to the forum!
Second I suggest you spend some time looking in the sections for each type of smoker (Charcoal, gas, electric, wood burner), then once you decide on a fuel type that fits your needs we can help you pick a good smoker for your budget.

Third - If you want to go with charcoal I would highly, highly recomend a
Weber Smokey Mountain (
WSM). I started out with an offset firebox smoker like you talked about and ended up getting rid of it in less than a year. Bought the
WSM and have never looked back! Another option if you are handy with tools and want to save $$, you can build an Ugly Drum Smoker (UDS) - they work really well and can usually be built for under $100....... Me, I'm not so handy and just wanted something that worked well out of the box so I went with the
WSM.
But do some reading first then pick a fuel type, then a smoker. Best of luck and don't be afraid to ask questions, you got about 10,000,000,000,000 years of accumulated knowladge between everybody on this forum... lol.
