Hey guys,

I've posted in a few other threads and just noticed this forum so I thought I'd pop in and introduce myself.  My name's Dallas Young and I'm out here in the square states, living in Orem, UT.  BBQ isn't a big thing out here.  For most of the people I know, if you put a few hot dogs on a grill, they'll call it a BBQ.  So I'm doing my best to show them the error of their ways.

I've been grilling for a while, for my age anyway since I'm a spry 34 years old.  But BBQ and smoking are new to me.  I recently bought the Chargriller Smokin' Pro with SFB and have taken full advantage of the massive mod thread for that smoker (a big thanks to everyone that contributed to that thread.  It's been incredibly helpful and a ton of fun to read).  And with as much fun as I had modifying that smoker, I'm planning on building my own from the ground up.  I'm not sure when I'll start to tackle that one, but count on me posting pics and asking for help along the way once I start.

Anyway, a huge thanks to all the contributors on this site.  I've wanted to find some experienced smokers for a while now to pick their brains, but like I said that's tough to come by out here.  I've learned an absolute ton from this site.

Meanwhile, here's a few pics of my Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys I smoked.  The pics aren't great because my phone doesn't have a very good camera.  But the birds were awesome.  Here's Thanksgiving:

Welcome to your new addiction... you'll have plenty of company here!

The turkeys look great too!  Once your neighbors start smelling that wonderful aroma of hickory smoke and meat... they'll give up those hot dogs in a second!

Welcome to SMF glad you can join us.  We are big on Pics and love to help everyone out.  Remember the only question that is dumb is one not asked.  You will not find a friendlier place to talk Que on the web.

You are going to fit in just fine.

Is there a way to search the forum membership to see if there's anyone nearby?  If there is, I haven't found it.  Reason I ask is I'm hoping there's someone semi-close to me that's done their own smoker build.  As helpful as the pics and posts I've seen on here are, you just can't beat seeing something in person and asking a question or two about how they did it and why.  Once I get to where I'm wanting to start into my build, it would help a TON if I could pick someone's brain in person while looking at an actual smoker.

Just curious.

First off welcome to SMF there Dallas. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.
