I already know your grill, but I'm not sure about the magnetic thermometer? You need to take measurements of the temps as close to the cooking surface as possible, so a magnetic thermo attached to the outside of the grill? I don't think there would be any benefit there.
I would recommend you go to amazon and search this term "2" river country adjustable thermometer" and consider that one. It is adjustable so you can make it accurate and it mounts by drilling a hole and tightening a nut around the stem.
