That looks great George. If you are using charcoal/wood for heat is the heat from the fire box likely to cause a problem with the paint on the outside of the fridge. Some are enamel but others are just painted and I cannot see which yours is.
Rutlands should work... I'm not sure what temp it needs to set "hard".... High temp silicone will work also.... If you don't want the silicone exposed, add a patch of aluminum and seal with the silicone...
Thanks Dave, Took the smoker camping this past weekend up to Ice House. Is was 33 degrees when I started my pork butt at 4 am in the morning. It only took 45 miutes to get to a temp to 275 and only used 2/3 of a twenty pound bag of charcoal for a 12 hour cook. Not bad. I am making a charcoal basket for it right now but my mig welder broke.
Here are some pic's of my charcoal basket. My thought is with the solid walls that the heat would reflect to the chamber where the food is. I hope! What do you guy's think?
Now I am cooking a meatloaf. The smoker has been holding 250 degrees for 3 hours. This basket and adding the toggle latchs has help to steady the temps.
JckDanls, The box is open on one side to let the heat out, The smoker was at 250 for 3 hours and climbed to 276 for 3 more hours. My smoker stayed above 225 for a couple more hours after that. So I think my basket worked out great. Also I only filled up the basket little more than half way.
