silver harbour conservation area 2024-03-05. What happens when the wind starts to move ice sheets on Lake Superior. A display of shear power! This area was covered in Ice and now it is all up on the shore, literally hundreds of tons of it.
There was not very much ice this year at all. Most years you could drive your trucks out there and fish for Lake Trout. Most years you would be 4-6 feet of ice. This year with the warming trend I would not venture out on Lake Superior at all. Any ice fishing was done on inland lakes for specs and walleye.
Even the inland lakes they figure a early break up and people are looking forward to early spring walleye before the season closes with their boats. Season: January 1 to April 14 and third Saturday in May to December 31
Mother nature demands respect! Pretty cool pile up!
We had a sheet move in on us duck hunting once(nowhere near that thick). It ground up everything in its path. We had a serious chinese fire drill going on trying get all of the decoys out of harms way. Pushed sand, rocks, gravel and the blind way up onto the shore. Ill look around, I might have a pic of it somewhere!
I cant imagine how impressive the glaciers must of been!
One year up at Tobin Lake they were letting boats out but we were told to watch the wind. If it switched and blew the ice sheet over, we could end up camping for numerous days. Did go up to the ice sheet and chopped some ice for the cooler. Kind of eerie knowing we could have got trapped.
