I have done 5 or 6 smokes so far and have noticed something really disturbing. After working with the food for 10-12 hours and it's all done cooking my appetite is GONE. I'm not taste testing anything along the way either. The food is always delicious but I'm just not hungry. When the completed product comes off the smoker I take a bite or 2 of the meat to make sure it tastes good....After that I don't feel the need to keep eating.

I want to be ready to eat when it's done but it doesn't happen......Is something wrong with me?

This is not out of the ordinary at all.  It happens to me not only smoking, but boiling crawfish and doing jambalaya outdoors as well.  I think it's some kind of sensory overload.  My cure is to go take a shower.  Once I wash the smell off of my clothes and hair and out of my nose, my apetite seems to come back strong.

I usually pick while I am cooking so when its meal time I do not eat that much, but I never loose my appetite

I agree with the beer theory. I also noticed that If i hang around the smoker too long, the food will taste sooty or over smoked but everyone else will love it.

I did when I used to work fast food, and pizza, but never with smoking.  I have the opposite problem with smoking.  I actually hate the fact that I always smell smoked myself, so much it makes me hungry again.  If you could just bottle that smell and sell as womens pefume. lol

I get the same way. What I have started doing is have the food done 1-2 hours before you are going to eat so you have time to go shower and get out of the smokey cloths and then hopefully build up a bit of appetite. I get sick of the smoke smell when I am out in it all day and if I can wash that off and get out of those cloths I find that I enjoy the food much more.

Thank god for the WSM.... lol, I usually am only out near the smoker for a total of 1 or 2 hrs during an entire smoke. Once the WSM is lit, loaded, and lidded I really don't have to do much of anything with it, so I go inside and continue on with other stuff. Come time to eat I'm just as hungry as the rest of the family... lol.

Now I used to have that problem maybe a year or so ago. Now I've grown out of it in many ways. Mostly the waistline has grown and so has my appitate for some really good food. Now you can't beat some fine smoked meat fresh off the smoker. After one bite it time to dig in and really chowdown and enjoy.

Along with showering before I eat I have also started to make sure that if I am sitting out by the smoker I stay out of the direct smoke. Put the smoker off to the side or sit on the non windy side of the smoker this should help you out as well if the smoke smell is getting to you. Both of these have really helped me out.
