Hello from PGH

Thread Starter
Hey everybody!

Got ECB Charcoal Brinkmann for Christmas, have done one brisket and some baby backs with so-so results (the all-too-familiar temperature regulation problems)

I work a lot so I've slowly been getting at doing my mods which include:

3/8'' holes drilled all over charcoal pan
1/2'' fiberglass rope purchased in case i need a lid seal
Moving legs to the exterior tonight

I read that one of those cone-caged tomato plant things can be a great charcoal pan holder once it gets cut down, so i'm either going to do that or buy (3) 8'' threaded rods with washers and nuts to create legs for the charcoal pan

since payday comes around this week, i'm also going to be ordering my Maverick et-73 off Amazon.com.

I also just got a 13'' round cooling rack that will be a new insert for my charcoal pan to guarantee better airflow in conjunction with the drilled holes.

Planning on smoking a whole chicken once my mods are complete.

QUESTION: Are the lid vent mods completely necessary? I have limited tools and am hoping I can maintain a good temp with all the other mods mentioned above

look forward to being a part of this community!

welcome to the forums. Beaver County PA here!

i would start with the mod for the charcoal pan and give a test run and see if you even need to make top vents.
