Hello From New Jersey

Happy New Year everyoneicon_smile.gif

My wonderful fiance informed me that she wanted to buy me a smoker for Christmas after trying some smoked fish/meat that a friend of mine made. I have yet to do any smoking myself, but have consumed respectable quantities of smoked meats/fish/poultry and have wanted to get into actually making it myself.

Soooo I have looked at many smokers on line but am confused about what to buy. I want to get a dedicated horizontal smoker, as we have a nice bbq, with a Side Firebox and plan to smoke with wood.

Budget is about $600 although spending less would be great so I can afford to buy more to put in the smoker. Any help would be greatly appreciated

can't wait to start smoking and post some pics.

Hope 2010 is getting off to a great start for you all

Can you give a little more information?

Size of area you have for the smoker?

What you plan on smoking?

How many people you would be smoking for?

Do you want to be out with the smoker a lot, or put it in and forget it?

Picture of the present barbeque if possible.

Makes a difference on what I would recommend.

PS. If things don't work out with the fiancee please direct her here as any chick willing to purchase a smoker is definately a keeper for many of us.

Thanks for the Welcome

She is a keeper and I just hope she continues to buy me presents like this after we are married.

We have plenty of space in the backyard, a large cement patio 15x15 or so.

I am thinking of starting out with ribs and probably doing some pulled pork, but eventually want to smoke some bacon, fish and probably some duck.

Probably cooking for 5 people on a regular basis and preparing stuff to take to friends parties.

I view it is a labor of love and really enjoy cooking so I will probably be attending the smoker.

The bbq is snow covered at the moment, something I will have to remedy soon but here is a link to what we have:
