Hello SMF.

Newbie from Idaho here. My name is Jim. Been doing a ton of reading and decided to join. Great stuff here. I just got my first smoker for Christmas from the wife. Nothing special just a MES from Cabalas. Money is tight these days.

Going to do my first smoke this afternoon on a Tri-Tip so we will see. The family wants me to attempt a brisket New Years Day but i think it is to soon.

Can't wait to meet you all and hope to learn much more from you all.

Hello Jim and welcome to SMF - glad to have you here with us
Never too soon to get your feet wet - give that brisket a try and remember you get to eat your mistakes too

Scarbelly is right, read up on briskets ( they can take an aweful long time to reach finished temp ) then go for it. You can ask questions on here as you go along in your brisket smoke. You only learn by doing.

Even the mistakes usually taste great.

Plenty of knowlegeble folks on here that will guide you through the smoke.

Hello Jim and welcome to the SMF. Congrats on the new MES. Tri Tip is a really nice cut, and if you do a little more reading... go for the brisky. It's all good my friend.

First off welcome Jim to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are abunch of good folks here that would just love to help you out with just about anything to do with smoking. We really like to have newbies here because they can bring in a new propective to how things are done. There's nothing like a new set of eyes to give and new way to make things that little differant to make things alittle better. So I hope you know about the Qview here.
Here's a link to photobucket it's free and easy to download pictures. Then if your really new to smoking Look up the E-course.
It's also free and it will give you the basics of smoking. So after all of that you just need to go grab something to smoke and if you have any question just post them here and we will answer it quickly so you don't have any mishaps with your smoke.

Welcome in . A quick tip for your 1st brisket is to trim the brisket , Use STORE BOUGHT Adams Brisket rub LIGHTLY .... wrap it in foil tightly and bbq that baby in the oven at 325 for two hours ... have smoker going ( getting up to temp ) and smoking light blue smoke ..remove brisket from oven pour juices in a bowl . Open top top of foil about two inches and place in smoker @ 220 to 240 degrees for three hours .... remove from maoker and wrap tight and add foil to outside tightly ... cover with a towel and let it sit for 1 hour .. then serve that baby up .. your family will love it ...............if needed add the juice from the brisket on top of slices .. but you should not have to ..
