Welcome Keith, and congrats on the new (to you) rig! Looks like you made a great find. Your question about thermometers: There is an entire thread section dedicated to thermos. I would suggest you browse it before you buy. I mostly use digital thermos. I have a couple of Taylors and a Maverick ET-73. They are a must IMHO. Good luck and happy smokin'!

found this for 3.99 a bag... http://www.patiodaddiobbq.com/2009/0...-charcoal.html soaking the pieces of wood in water as we speak
then also bought a bag of the cowboy charcoal for 6.99...smoking a beef and a pork tri tip...party starts in an hour...bring your own beer...and also a new temp gauge for the lid of the smoker and ordered one for the cooking surface...yes i know about the drop in degrees from the lid to the grates...i am a bit nervous...hehehe...

First off welcome Keith to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are abunch of good folks here that would just love to help you out with just about anything to do with smoking. We really like to have newbies here because they can bring in a new propective to how things are done. There's nothing like a new set of eyes to give and new way to make things that little differant to make things alittle better. So I hope you know about the Qview here.
Here's a link to photobucket it's free and easy to download pictures. Then if your really new to smoking Look up the E-course.
It's also free and it will give you the basics of smoking. So after all of that you just need to go grab something to smoke and if you have any question just post them here and we will answer it quickly so you don't have any mishaps with your smoke.
