OK, I got a better one for my brinkman. couldn't afford one of those cool remote ones but this one looked good to me. It says it fits brinkmans (umm ok, I think if one has to drill it would fit anything! lol), but it doesn't fit in the hole where my hokey inaccurate one is. The question I have is this. I has those screw threads with the nut, now if I drill a hole the size of the screw in part and put it in the lid, it won't be flush with the surface. Is that right?

That would be correct. You can drill the hole a bit smaller than the threads and just screw it in, or drill the hole big enough for the threads to slide in and then tighten on the nut. The thermo will be sitting up off the chamber surface but that is OK.

Another option would be to drill a hole the circumfrance of the brass nut and use washers as spacers between the interior wall of your smoker and the nut; then the thermometer will sit fluch agaist the outside of the smoker.

Both sound good, thanks dudes!

follow up questions, it won't hurt the back of it if I did make a bigger hole so it's flush?
And it'll work the same either way then?
