Hello all. My name is Jack and I am a new smoker currently living in Spring Hill, TN. We moved here about a year ago from PA and I am loving the overall lack of snow!

I have been doing some smoking on my gas grill with a smoker box, but have decided to move to a dedicated smoker.

I recently purchased a Charcoal Brinkman from Home Depot. This particular model: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...egoryID=500439

After some reading I started to wonder if I should have started with an electric like this one:

Anyway I came across this site while trying to make sure if I made the right choice or not.

Sorry for the question in my introduction, if there is a better place to put it let me know and I will go there as well.

I look forward to digging into the wealth of info on here and continuing to learn more!

Welcome to SMF, Jack. You did good... I am a fire fan..LOL! Electrics work, yes indeed. And the serious ones do well. But I maintain there's a flavor from the fire that can't be duplicated with electricity. Is that a good or bad thing? Personal pref.

At any rate, glad to see ya joined and looking forward to your input, questions, and Q-View!

Hello Jack. Welcom aboard. You will find all kinds of information on this site. I used to have a gas smoker (I say used to, someone stole it

) and I am now currently building a new electric unit. My personnal belief is the flavor is added by seasonings (rubs, brines and such) and the smoking wood. Others think different, that is the great thing about this site, alot of different strokes from different folks. Try several and see what works best for you.

Good luck and remember to post some q-view for us!

Welcome to the site. Lots of nice folk and info here. Glad you are enjoying the lack of snow. I am shoveling it all too much up here.

Thanks for all the warm welcoming! My next real "newbie" question... where do I find "Q-View". I would like to see some other pics....

Any other Homebrewers out there? I thought what could be better together, some good homebrew and some good smoked meat!
