Newbie meatloaf question

I've got a newbie meatloaf question for everyone. I just bought an electric smoker yesterday, and I'd like to make meatloaf as my first ever smoked feast. My question is, how should I place the meatloaf in the smoker? Should I place it on a cookie sheet, on aluminum foil, or directly on the rack?
I have a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker.

I use a steamer pan that i picked up at Gander Mountain. Here is a pic.

I use a pizza pan for the grill which is a flat version of Meowey's steamer pan.

I start mine I a piece of foil and gently roll it off after it firms up some.

after looking at the local prices at the restaurant supply store for all the pans/sheets with holes in them, I came home, folded some HD foil, got out a pencil. Put the foil on a cold grill and poke holes! No difference, except now I have $30 to buy a few gallons of gas!

My wife picked me up a pan that looks just like the one meowey has pictured at Lowe's for $5.99. If that is a Masterbuilt smoker in the photo, they are also the same size.

i am like deejay. i use foil (from sam's club (14 bucks gets you great comercial big @@@ roll). i have never thought of taking it off the foil but i like that idea. i just used the foil to take it off the grill, but i like the idea of more smoke.

i guess i am just lazy and dont like washing more dishes then i have to

You can use disposable foil pans. I poke a number of holes in the bottom of one and put the meatloaf in it. Poke the holes with a pencil, or some such size item, poke from top to bottom. You can either let the drippings fall down into your water pan, if you have one, or you can set the pan in another foil pan to catch them. If you do that you need some sort of spacer(s) between the top pan and the lower pan to give the drippings an area to accumulate in, 1/2-3/4 inch or so. I have used canning jar rings.
I have concidered using some of the drippings collected to make a gravy, just have not tried it yet.

i have a vegetable grill basket that's approx 6" deep and has tapered sides
with real close wire mesh looks like a french fry basket kind of,i used it and it worked great.good luck and get ready to get hooked on that meatloaf cause it's coming!!

I like using my veggie grill rack/pan. Looks like meowys, but flat . Can get it anywhere were bbq supplies sold. icon_biggrin.gif In fact, was gonna smoke something today (another beautiful one today). A meatloaf and a few ABT's sound very pleasing to the palate.......

I am with Mike on this one I use a throw away pan and poke some holes in it.
When I ca aford it I'll buy a pan like Moewy's.

i slide it off of a spray oiled pizza pan straight to the grill. 2 spatulas to remove it.

I cut two pieces of plywood the size I wanted. For each meatloaf smoke I wrap them with aluminum foil, smoke the meatloaf, remove and trash the foil covering and use the pieces again and again. Here is a picture of them.

I picked up a couple sheets of thin aluminum with holes in it I think at Lowes in the grill section a few months back. So far I've only used it for ABTs and bread stuffs, but I think it would work good for meat loaf.

Like Buzzard I buy the commercial grade big wide heavy duty tin foil At BJ's and it works great. I don't like the meat loaf to puddle it gets greasy so once it firms up after about a half hour I roll it off and it gets a crispy skin not quite a bark.

Thanks folks for all the help. I just placed the meatloaf in a bread pan thing my wife had laying around. It turned out well; everyone had a second helping.
