Just out of curiosity, what's the advantage or reason to use this calculator vs some of the recipes and step by step methods that are popular on this site? Is it by using this calculator a guy could continuously expirement and get a perfect flavor to his liking while still ensuring proper curing?

The reason is simply that you know the exact amount of cure#1, salt, & sugar to use by the weight of the meat you are curing. This eliminates any problems or anyone getting sick from your food. All you need is a good scale. You can add any other ingredients to the cure mix as long as you don't change the amount of cure you use.
