SoCal - making smoke rings!
Yep!  Smokin' in CA.  Empty Nester that went for the pellet grill so I don't have to stoke a brisket at 3 a.m.  Hope that's not equivalent to communism here on the forum, but I guess I'll find out.  Did mucho research before I checked that item on my bucket list.  I suppose I'm tending toward chillin' in my 'senior' citizen decades.

Retired USMC!  In fact, those are the guys that sent me to CA; after I vowed to never set foot here.  Anyway, the weather is great.  The leadership is . . . completely out-of-the-box.

I flew helos, loved it, don't do it anymore.  Can't see the darn instruments anymore; much less read my watch.

I'm brand spankin' new to smoking meat; as a producer.  I've been an avid consumer for many decades.  Hint: pair with a good glass of brew and a Cuban (cigar, that is) and you're as close to heaven as God allows us here on the blue marble.

So, you're probably wondering about "FireWater Joe".  Well, that goes back to my grandpa in N.E. Texas.  As a kid, I spent many hours next to his side listening and watching in wonder as he talked all over the world on his 3-meter repeater.  His moniker was . . . wait for it . . . "FireWater Joe".  His morse code skills still amaze me.

I throned two fresh chickens for my first smoke; last weekend.  It was a hit.  If I did it again, I'd smoke slow for an hour or two before kicking the heat up to 350 for 90 min.  I think the skin would have crisped a little more.  But, they were brined for 18 hrs which made the meat oh-so juicy and full of smoke flavor.  But the skin . . . well,  a good first try.  You get what you ask for I suppose.

Not sure what else you guys want to know but I'll close with this.  If you're familiar with the phrase, " . . . to support and defend the Constitution . . . " and you have a DD-214 in your home files, that oath isn't over.  It's life long.  And it may not be too much longer before we have to stand and be counted for our oaths.  I'm so very concerned about erasing our history; lest we're bound to repeat it!

Look forward to interacting with you all.

FWJ, welcome to SMF!  Glad you're here and still fight'n for what's right.  Thank you for your service.  I'm an old Navy A-7 guy who dented a few flight decks with my tailhook.

Great Roll Call post BTW.  Gave you a point on that one.

Enjoy the forum!

Ray,

Same to you my friend.  I must say I had a darn good time and would do it all over again if I could.  I flew CH-46 and actually made a dent on an amphib flight deck once.  That was enough!

Looking forward to sharing/absorbing the forum.

Good morning and welcome to the forum from a cloudy, cool and rainy day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web.

Lots of great people with tons of information on just about everything.
