I'm getting ready to give a go at snack sticks on my wsm for the first time. I've not made sticks or jerky before. I've looked at a few brands of seasonings recommended on this site, and they sound good except they all seem to have MSG as the third or fourth ingredient. I'm not completely against that, just wondering if there are any tasty brands that don't use it?

Thinking about trying Bearcarver's caseless sticks recipe for my first go, with cure#1 instead of TQ.

Thanks in advance for any info or tips!

Hi there and welcome!

I haven't tried them yet but I have them top on my list, OwensBBQ.com seasonings.  I don't believe they put MSG in their seasonings.

I'm in the same boat as you.  I started with LEM's seasonings to begin with and loved the flavor but I would like to move away from the MSG and any other unwanted ingredients.  I think LEM's has a few seasonings with out MSG but you just have to dig around and see.

Also I LOVE the LEM's Jerky Cannon!  I do ground meat jerky because it is easy on the teeth and I have 30-35 pounds of pure ground venison every year and like to be able to take 5 pounds and make jerky when I want.  LEM's Jerky Cannon is basically all metal (some pieces covered with plastic or a resin but metal inside) and it has the largest capacity for holding jerky so you aren't refilling tubes all day.

I use the 2 tube jerky stick nozzle WITHOUT casings.  This is because I can fit more meat on a tray in stick form rather than flat jerky form.   That is the only reason I prefer the jerky sticks over the flat jerky but I love them both.

I hope this info helps and best of luck on your jerky adventures :)
