I am looking at purchasing one of two smokers my local Wal-Mart has. Just not sure which one. Looking for some input as i have never owned one. I am looking at the pit boss 700fb or the camp chef smoke pro pg24se? I like the smoke pro because it has the smoke stack and the removable ash tray. But i like the pit boss because it looks a little more well built and it has flame broil to sear steaks. Also the pit boss has higher btu. Not sure if that matters. Also i know the smoke pro has a fan to circulate air and smoke, not sure about the pit boss. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy streets...first off, looks like this was your first post...so welcome to Smoking Meat Forums!

I'm a former pellet grill owner, but have no direct knowledge of the 2 units your considering...but my observations regarding pellet cookers in general:

Both of those grills are probably decent enough for inexpensive, entry level pellet smokers.  Just remember that the old adage, "you get what you pay for" is true.  If you buy a Chevy Cruz, obviously you can't expect it to drive like a Cadillac.  Higher end, American Made pellet cookers start at around $1200-1500 and go up from there, but there's no comparison in the build quality to most of the Chinese imported products.  So my first advice would be, save your money until you can afford a Yoder, a Blaz'n Grillworks, a MAK, or a Memphis.  Those are the leaders in the pellet grill market, the "Made in USA" grills that are, IMHO, the Cadillac of pellet cookers.

That being said, that doesn't mean that the cookers you're looking at won't serve you well...they probably will.  Your questions about the difference between the 2:

All pellet smokers use a bellows fan to feed oxygen to the flame in the burn pot (the chamber where the pellets burn).  So don't worry about that...both the units you're looking at have it.

My 2 cents:  I wouldn't worry too much about the different bells and whistles each unit has.  I'd go with the one that I thought was built the best, with the heaviest gauge metal, the best seals with the fewest gaps at the seams.  Really look them both over with a fine-tooth comb...looking at all the welds and seams.  Then I'd make sure I looked online for customer reviews on both...the opinions of other owners would mean a lot.

I hope that helps some...good luck!

Sturdy and thick metal. Very good reviews as well. I will probably pull the trigger very soon. I will let you guys know when i get it and how my first cookout turns out. Thanks again for the info and the welcome to the forum.
