Hi All,

New to the forum, had no idea how much there was to know about smoking meats, and building smokers ... have a feeling my new hobby will quickly become my new obsession...

Anyways, down to business, looking to build my first smoker, but want to build it multipurpose for the balcony
- want to incorporate a grill and a smoker in 1 unit
- small footprint
- propane powered (we live in perth australia where outdoor wood fires are prohibited for most of the year)
- only cooking for 2 adults and a child generally on grill, and up to 8 adults on smoker when used

Will use the smoker only occasionally (once a week generally), but will use the grill more frequently.

I've attempted to draw my idea. (TRYING TO UPLOAD IT!!)
My main concern:
Will smoke reach the smoking area even though the outlet/baffle is at the bottom ...all offset smokers i see have the fire box dropped (is this for heat regulation or because smoke obviously rises and will only work if the smoke generation is lower than the smoking area?)

Anyways, hi to all, and happy smoking! .. hopefully a few of you guru's can help me out!

my other thought would be to add cold smoke injection, and have 2 compartments - grill and smoker ... thinking that might be better?

I'm no smoker engineer but with that design I could see issues with both airflow (smoke) and heat transfer to the CC of the smoker as heat also rises.

Dimensions wuld be helpful.  The illustration looks as if the smoke and heat have to travel 8 feet.

On an offset smoker the top of the fire box is level with the baffle plate. This is to allow the heated air and smoke to flow under the baffle plate into the cook chamber.
With your design your firebox will be very hot but your cc will remain cold.
