I would not recommend it.  The least little flaw in the granite will cause it to crack.  In fact, when granite counter tops became popular and people started putting their hot pots and skillets directly on the granite - the counter-tops cracked enough that they changed their recommendation to not do that.  Since fires will not heat the granite evenly, I would expect the same cracking issue to be ever-present.

granite counter tops I removed from a house I remodled,and was wondering if they would hold up to the temp of burning wood .
