Homemade Stand for AMNPS in MES smokers

I'm cheap.  I kept reading about others using this wire rack or this sausage hanger they found on Amazon to hold their pellet tray, but spending that much money on something that simple just didn't sit right, so I headed to Walmart to see what I could find.  Here is what I came up with.

The pan with the holes in it I found in the BBQ supply section.  It is almost exactly the same size as the 5/8 pellet tray.  It cost $2.30

Next to that is a package of three foil mini loaf pans. They were $.88 for the three.

The tube of silicon I already had.

Now it's just a matter of gluing it together.  Turn all the pans upside down and put a couple of dabs of silicone on the outer edge of the loaf pan.  Line up the outer edges of the tray and the loaf pan and stick together.  Repeat for the other side.

Put the tray on the bottom of the smoker with the AMNPS sitting on top.  I have found that I get a little more smoke with it up against the heater as the smoke is caught in the heat current and swirls around the smoker better.  When it is in the far left position, as shown in this position, more smoke just goes up the back wall and straight out the exhaust.  I use both positions depending on the pellets I'm using and how much smoke I want in the chamber.  I usually start on the right side and move to the left if I"m getting too much smoke.

I actually made this some time ago, and just procrastinated about posting it.  My try has been through LOTS of smokes and still works great.

Looks Great Steve!!Thumbs Up

Does it keep burning all the time?

I was thinking less metal & more air, like some kind of a wire frame type thing, but maybe it's not that important because the X-frame Bottom feet of the AMNPS keep the perforations from being blocked by the metal between the holes, so yours should be Great.

Nice Job,

Nice Job,

I normally have noproblemkeeping it lit. Sometimes I wish for more smoke, so I usually slide it to the right side. The extra heat from the heater helps, and the hole in the bottom of the drip pan is directly under the tray. Not sure if that helps all that much, but something does seem to make it smoke more on that side.

However, a bought a sample pack from cooking pellets.com and the smoke more that what I was using before. For the first time, I had too much smoke the other day, so I slid the tray to the other side. It smoked about the same, but more of the smoke went straight up and out of the exhaust.

Great !

Thanks for the Info. I'm still experimenting on the AMNPS in this new 2.5.

It worked Perfect in my Gen #1, but other than that, I'm liking this 2.5 even more than my Gen #1.
