That's what will be happening the third weekend of September 2016!

Every year I host a wood boat-any boat gathering AKA as a Messabout at Paulina Lake Oregon.

We had great weather and fantastic food. On Saturday night I host a potluck. This year I prepared pork sirloin roasts, Tri Tip, and an apple, onion, sauerkraut dish to go with the pork.

There were tons of sides, and homemade English muffins made in my newest toy. The Discada!

A friend of mine in the valley had a good source on harrow discs and snagged a few. He welded mine up and brought it over to the event for delivery. He used it to make the English muffins, and as a tent warmer to take off the morning chill.

We hatched a plan for next years food. We have done whole chickens, blow torch nachos, Pizza in the woods, cream can chuckies, why not Stir fry in the woods! Plan set.

Anyone who wants to join is welcome, it will be the third weekend of September. Little Crater Campground Paulina lake.

I'm inviting myself to next year's potluck! I want a disc so bad, totes jealous. ....
Everyone is welcome! Paulina Lake is a great event. Most bring boats but those that don't are welcome to try a kayak or go for a sail or  a row. I'll be sending out a reminder when camp ground reservations are able to be made next year.

There's lots of discs in your area at the metal yards, call around. They range in price from $10-$25. Then all you need is a welder to close the hub hole and add handles.

I will be doing that! I love the horse shoe handles too. Both my dad and husband are excellent welders and easily bribed by food lol. Paulina is gorgeous, what a great place to go have fun!

Dirt,

Nice "Cowboy Wok"!

I'd love to find someplace I can recycle one of these from. When you say "metal yards" do you mean a salvage place? We have junk yards but mostly auto stuff and the recycle centers don't let you rummage around for stuff like that.

Even local tractor places seem to have to order them. There's a 16" on amazon for about $30 with shipping, and eBay has some about the same price with shipping. That 23" unit you have would be better than 16" for cowboy cooking.

Or, one could take the shortcut and spend $50 and get one ready made

I'm a metal fabricator and welder so I'd have no problem making one. I'm even experienced in grinding and polishing to food safe levels (NSF, Stainless work, etc.). Getting the harrow disc in my hands for cheap is my problem so far.

Do you rest that right in to a fire or do you have a stand, propane burner or something like that? The Discada cooking forum is a great idea. It's getting bonfire season here and DW and I love to "rough it" out back in our woods with a bonfire sometimes. I have a custom low stand, coals rack and even cast iron grill grates from an old gas grill I set up out there, I could see me doing a one pot fry in one of these too. OK, OK...we also have Tiki torches, lanterns, MP3 player with a boom box, comfy chairs and when we're done we come right back in the house where the bathrooms and showers are! Yea...we don't do "camping"

I had to source this disc out of the Willamette Valley. And yes by metal yards I mean places that let you get what you want and pay for it. Over where I live there's to many rocks so there aren't many harrows. Find a community that does lots of grass and hay and there has to be a metal scrap yards somewhere with them. Problem with ordering online is the shipping. This thing weighs at least 50 pounds. I looked at one on eBay and Amazon and the shipping was more than the disc to where I live!

Nice time Case. Relax and unwind. You bring the boys? Wait one couldn't go since he doesn't have his own wooden boat yet, right? <chuckles>

I never knew there was a name, discada. We did loads of fajitas on then, Cook in the center and keep warm on the outsides. Even the coonazz do a crab dish on them with whole crabs. Pretty tastee too.

What a beautiful sunset. I am envious.

Oh and if you added two more handles, you could get more help picking that sucker up.....LOL My friends as a royal pain to polish and season. Cast iron is easier to clean and take care of. Course might have just been his disc's.

Kevin, you have a whole year to plan, come join us next year for stir fry in the woods! Bring some gator and crawfish with ya!

Here's mine cooking up some beef and broc with ginger... Got it from agri supply. The disc and burner was 97$..The burner was to hot, so I set it on a blown out mower wheel..Its heavy, but sure not anywhere near 50 lbs. Its 22"...I love this thing!!
Great looking food! I have two steel wheels I am going to weld together for a redneck fire pit. I was planning on using it as well. My propane burner has stand offs to bring the disc up off the flame about 8".

I will have to weigh mine. I know it is heavier than my skin on frame kayak which weighs in at 39 pounds

For most of my smaller cooks I will use the Stovetec rocket stove. For larger cooks I will use my propane burner on the camp chef. Or I will go right over hot coals. Looking at it if I added two more handles I could hang it from the Tri pod over the for too!

The rocket stove rises again! !!
Mission critical is finding a disc, I must have one! I second (or third or whatever)your sub-forum idea!

http://www.agrisupply.com/bbq-disc-blade-discada/p/85077/   this is where I got mine.  .and the "to hot" burner at the bottom of the page.  Some one told me I could change the regulator to low pressure and it would be ok as the one that's on there is supposed to be 170,000 btu's..... I'm guessing that the disc is no more than 6-7 lbs.   Sorry for the hi-jack....if I lived closer I'd try to go...YES! a sub-forum...I use mine 3-4 times a week..
