First time smoked prime rib with a pan of homemade au jus to boot...

First off I wanna give a shoutout to Bearcarver for his dialed in prime rib instructions.

As well as a shoutout to ChefJimmy for his au jus recipe

I just followed the directions listed on both, other than the fact that i was using my propane fueled cedar smoker so I used chips instead of pellets and I was working with a 10lb prime rib so the time was extended by about an hour and a half. Heres a couple pics of the prep along with some fresh caught tuna loins i sliced up for the bbq. (A whole nother kinda deliciousness by the way)





So once the guests showed up (10 adults and 12 children) I unfortunately was quite preoccupied trying to keep everybody entertained and keeping an eye on the prize (and drinking beer) that i didnt get any pics once everything was done and laid out on the counter but I DID get a moneyshot of it prior to the wrapping in foil and letting "sit" . Prepare for your mouth to start watering....

THERE IT IS!

Thanks to Bearcarver, I will never do a prime rib any other way! This thing was so juicy and so flavorful and with ChefJimmys au jus dribbled over top, it was the best prime rib I've ever had. Wish i could have taken more pics of the prime rib AND tuna but I had a herd of hungry kids to deal with. Hell I even had a 4 year old girl sucking the fat down cause it was so flavorful! I didnt want to waste the marinade for the tuna so i chopped up a couple more loins thin and made some smoked jerky snacks with it which I'll share in the fish forum. A HUGE shoutout to Bearcarver! You got your prime rib dialed and I thank you for sharing with us your delicassants so that we can simply amaze our friends and family as well! Have a great day all and happy smoking

Wow, looks great! What was the Tuna marinating in? The pan of Jus looks a bit dry like it reduced down. Remember to keep the liquid volume steady, using water, throughout the cook. This gets the most flavor out of the veg and the finished Jus will not be too salty...JJ

Theres the recipe for the tuna. I didnt see in the instructions to add water... Did I overlook that step? It turned out awesome after adding some red wine to it and there was still plenty of Jus. I just got done bagging up round 2 using the tuna marinade... first batch was simply bbq'd, this batch cut thinner and smoked

Looks great - Prime rib is out of this world.  Mouth is watering just looking at it.

How many pounds of Tuna for this amount of marinade?

Well i would imagine however much you can cover with the marinade. I did 2 large loins on the first go around (bbq'd ) and 2 more loins on the 2nd(smoked) which i would estimate at about 7-8lbs of tuna each time. Im sorry I dont have an exact answer for you.
