Sure thing!

$59 plus free shipping is hard to pass up if you've been thinking about pulling the trigger on one.

I reckon the color isn't for everybody but I don't mind it.

$10 off with free shipping? You can't beat that!

However, I walked the above statement back slightly with my comment below.

Todd Johnson sells the Maverick ET-733 on his A-MAZE-N website for $69.99 plus free shipping for orders over $34. Because I've been a happy customer of Todd's for about 3 years now, I'd buy from him even if I could buy the ET-733 cheaper elsewhere. Todd's a small businessman, offering great products at great prices and outstanding customer service. I buy from him because he's taken good care of me--including providing excellent advice on using my MES 30 Gen 1--and I want to do my part to keep him in business. He's become a friend and I'd really buy from a friend I trust than from some unknown seller on an online shopping website.

Thanks, rabbithutch! I really didn't know about Todd being a sponsor because I don't pay attention to that stuff. I just know he's treated me really well plus he emailed me a greeting card with a photo of his family last Christmas.

New Maverick ET-733 I just unboxed reads 48 deg in ice water, 5 degrees above room temperature and 212 deg in boiling water. Is this normal or is it defective? What should I do?

Hmm... I haven't had a chance to unbox mine yet, may not get to till the weekend.

Honestly I'm not sure the proper way to test the probes for temp. I was going to search here for a thread on it when it came time.

I'd have to defer to members with more experience with this thermometer.

The ice water test is mostly ice with the voids filled with water and let it sit for several minutes and stir so the probe doesn't stay in contact with the ice.  The Thermapen manufacturer calls for a glass filled with crushed ice then add a little water and let sit and then add more crushed ice before stirring. Your boiling test is right on if your at sea level and it's the closest to internal food temps and cooking chamber temps.

It's been a long time since I calibrated my ET-733 but I think the instructions from a CSR was to do the exact same thing for the ice water test. I also recall that for the boiling water test you let the water stabilize before plunging the probes into it.
