Planning on building a RF in the future. Wanted to make sure I had seasoned wood so I picked up some Maple and Cherry. The lengths vary quite a bit. Plan is to split it all over the summer. Don't remember the dimensions of the planned firebox but 18" deep rings a bell. I see several folks use a basket in there firebox. What I am wondering is how far down do I split to? I understand that if the wood is small I will be loading the fire more frequently. I was taught, when I dealt with a fireplace in a house, to split everything to aid in its seasoning. If the logs are not split down far enough does it create any troubles....say perhaps excessive smoke? Sorry for being all over the map, haven't slept much lately and am all over the map...
