Interesting article showing how a baking stone barely helps control temperature in an oven as a thermal mass.

I just thought it was interesting because so many people Q with bricks in the smoker. I imagine it would be similar results.

Never tried using a stone(s) in the smoker. I do however have some nearly 1" thick stones that I use for baking bread or pizza. For pizza I turn up the oven as high as it will go (550deg) and let the stones come up to temp. You haven't had pizza until you've had a paper thin crust pizza cooked in about 2-3 minutes.

I tried to use some fire bricks in my BGE a few times. Took forever and then some more to get hot.
