New to smoking

Thread Starter
Hello everyone, My name is Karla and I am from Las Vegas, Nv... I am looking to buy a new smoker for my boyfriend he has a propane one that was left at his brothers place that i guess his brother now has taken ownership of so I'm looking to get him a new one and can't decide on propane or electric and he is a bit unsure as well... as i have been doing some research on both versions... I have one big question as I am debating this issue... the question is can we take the electric smoker camping? We have a generator for our trailer but i don't know much about if it can be used that way or is it just better to stick with propane? Thanks everyone in advance!

Karla :welcome1:

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions
Post it and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is
because their are so many different ways to make great Q...

As for your questions. Most electrics will run off of a small generator. You didn't say

which electric you are looking at. I have a MES40 that I really like. The problem with

a lot of electrics is the upper limit of 275°. Then the Propane has a hard time below 225°.

Spend some time reading the reviews. It will be time well spent.

Happy smoken.

texas.gif  Good afternoon and welcome to the forum, from a cloudy and chilly day here in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

Welcome to the site Karla.  You should be able to find the maximum amp draw of the electric smokers you are studying and compare that figure to the output of your generator.

Happy shopping.
