Hello everyone.

Just a quick introductory note.

I live in Newcastle upon Tyne in the north east of the u.k.

Strange how I've ended up here.

I was initially looking to buy a new barbecue and thought why not see how difficult it is to make my own. I then stumbled upon designs for an ugly drum smoker.

Been a lot of years since I have had the time or the inclination to do any diy construction and thought I would give it a go. ( I will purchase the bbq )

Anyway so far I have the obtained the drum and gave it a good hot burn, cleaned it and gave it a quick primer coat of high temp paint.

Busy making the fire basket and procuring some other essentials such as thermometer , rail system for adjustable grill heights etc.

Looking forward to get it made and tested.

Smoking is not particular popular in my part of the world, weathers a bit unpredictable I reckon , so it might make for some interesting trials and hopefully some tasty summer afternoon dining and drinking.

With luck I will be up and running in a couple of weeks as long as I get some building time in.

Many thanks.

Durham sure is pretty and historic city. Although Newcastle has many attractions.

Not a patch on your part of the world though !
