Has anyone had a similar issue? I really don't want to send it back for repair but I wonder if I'm alone on this. The temperature tends to be more accurate at colder meat temperatures. As the meat temperature rises, the thermometer goes farther away from the correct temp. I verified it with an analogue meat thermometer. It will read roughly 300 when the box temp is 275 without being inserted to the meat. Is there a calibration?

That is the nature of the beast. Most of them are off. The only thing you can do is get a good thermometer that you have checked in both ice water and boiling water. Their will also be temp differences between different parts of the cabinet.

I see this is your first post. When you get a chance will you drop by roll call so everyone can give you a proper SMF welcome? It would also help if you would add your location to your profile.

Happy smoken.

Exactly why I ended up buying a Maverick ET-733 which is what I use instead of the MES control display. I think most built-in smoker and grill therms whether dial or digital are inaccurate. Might be a cost issue.
