First of beer!

My name is Marcus and I,m a league city police officer in Texas. (30mi south of Houston). I'm buying a master built sportsman 40" elite. If read they are not too accurate so I will get a new thermometer Et732?
Any recommendations on my first smoke? I was thinking brisket but, I'm super green to all of this so any recommendations would be great. Thanks

Chicken is a great first smoke. It's really hard to screw up and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. An ET732, or an iGrill2 will get you multiple probes so you canointor your pit to and whatever you are cooking. Good luck and post pics of your smoke!

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing

We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions
Post it and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is
because their are so many different ways to make great Q...

As Case said above chicken is a good place to start.

I would suggest something which cooks at a constant and low temperature, such as ribs or pulled pork.  I am unfamiliar with the highest temperature your model of smoker goes to, but, chicken needs fairly high temperatures to crisp the skin and promote a good bite-through.  Rubber-skinned chicken has an objectionable bite-through.

Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ. Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with there opinion on the subject.
As for your first smoke I would try ribs using the 3-2-1 method!! If you don't know what that is just search for 3-2-1.
