Hi I made a smoker from an old gas grill someone was going to throw away it works well I smoked a rack of ribs with it but for some reason I keep getting billowing white somke every time I shut the lid after I shut the lid for about 4 minutes I get good thin blue smoke but then it turns to heavy white smoke like the fire is starving for oxygen but I have the vent wide open and the wood is sitting on a metal grate so it can get air underneath im thinking maybe the oak wood im using is too wet maybe some suggestions would be great I have included a video of the smoker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPQOLUEEYsM&feature=youtu.be

Someone else who knows more may chime in here but it looks to me like you may want to extend your stack down to near grate level for a better draw of air. Just my 2 cents. Like I said there are some great smoker builder/designers that are members and I bet someone will be along shortly.
