So it was a tough call as to what to use my keg for. It's been in my shed for close on 5 years and was nearly a heater..
That was untill I went to a mates house who also smokes meats.. From that moment it's was sorted.
Being a backyard welder I had pretty much everything needed to complete the build so the outlay for this build was $0 ;-)
Anyway I hum'd. And har'd about vertical or horizontal bit in the end went with vertical to keep it simple to start..
So I took the top 1/3 off just as the top indentation folded back into the barrel.
I then peened the fold flat with the rest of the drum so the top lip simply sat over the bottom..
Next I removed the spout. I've left it as is so it's neat and compact.
Next up the base. I decided to do a Webber style air flow setup on the base..
A simple stainless disc with 4 13mm holes in it and a middle 6mm hole to suit a 6mm stainless bolt, then transferred the holes to the base of the keg, bolted the disc on using double nuts, and a rod out the side so it can be controlled easily from the side..
I've added a peice of stainless mesh roughly 25mm above the hole inside the keg to allow a better air flow to beads out wider, not just above.
Next up the shelves. A simple setup of 3 bolts from the side at desired heights and some perforated stainless sheet cut to size.
To finish off a $10 thermometer to the lid and vola. Finished...
Any questions please ask.
Cheers..
