I got all enthused after seeing a few new builds and a nice new paint job, and the new smokers looking so good, I just couldn't stand it. I'll do touch up painting off and on through the year, but I got my wire brushes and sander out, decided to do more than touch up.

I'll post a few pictures as I go.

I'm back but pretty windy, maybe later this afternoon the wind will die down enough to get started painting.

Waited till I was in the shade, still a little windy, but painted anyway, got all the underneath and some of the front and top, ran out of paint, Back to Lowe's in the morning then hopefully I'll get it finished tomorrow and start refinishing the wood.

Ready to Paint

As far as I got before running out of paint

Thanks Gary, tough decision between Blue or Red

Thanks Gary.  I told Bear I was one of those guys who believes in doing things right. Once I decided it was time for a new paint job, I said well if am going repaint the smoker I need to refinish all the wood as well. I took my palm sander and went over the entire smoker, hand sanded where I couldn't get the sander, wiped it down twice with mineral spirits and put several coats, letting each one dry for at least four hours (95º days helped). Sanded all my wood work tables back down to the wood, put 3 coats of varnish on yesterday. getting ready for more coats on the other sides today.

There are certain amounts of maintenance on everything. My smoker sits out in the weather, so the sun and seasons are hard on the paint, and I use it all the time. I have seen people spend good money on a smoker and never do anything to it. never understood that. I like mine to look as good at it smokes. more pictures later
